Faculty of Agriculture
The aim of the faculty is;
To develop well trained human resources to meet the growing needs of the various sectors of agriculture and allied industries in Botswana.
To co-operate with other Departments in the Faculty of Agriculture and outside the Faculty in training and producing high quality human resources in agriculture and related fields.
To combine theory and practices in order to inculcate critical thinking in all agricultural courses.
The faculty is made of three departments being:
- Department of Agricultural and Bio Systems Engineering
This department has a total of 29 staff members, 21 of which are academic staff ranging from instructor to professor
The department offers mainly two undergraduate programmes right now being Bsc in soil and water conservation Engineering and Bsc in Agricultural Mechanization
There are 3 streams in Master of Science in Agricultural Engineering (mechanization, Land Use Planning and Soil and water Engineering)
The academic staff members are involved in research covering some of the following themes
Renewable energy applications in agricultural production systems
Farm safety and machinery management systems
Irrigation and Drainage systems for agricultural production
Decision support systems and modelling for agriculture, environment, and natural resources
- Department of Crop Sciences and Soils
This department has a total of 41 staff members, 24 of which are academic staff ranging from instructor to professor
The department offers mainly four undergraduate programmes right now being Bsc in Agriculture, Bsc in Crop Science, and Higher Diploma in Agriculture
There are 4 streams in Master of Science in Crop Science (Agronomy, Crop Protection, Horticulture and Soil Science)
The academic staff members are involved in research covering some of the following themes
Food Security and Safety
Climate Change and Environment
Biotechnology
Water Security
- Department of Food Science and Technology
This department has a total of 12 staff members, 7 of which are academic staff ranging from lecturer to Professor
The department offers mainly one undergraduate programme right now being Bsc in Food Science and Technology
The department has developed graduate programmes to offer Master of Science in Food Science and Technology as well as PhD in Food Science.
The academic staff members are involved in research covering some of the following themes
Healthy SMART snacks from climate smart crops
Livelihood diversifying potential of camel based food security and climate smart sustainable development in Botswana
Edible wild trees and shrubs in forests of Botswana
Phytochemical constituents and antimicrobial properties of indigenous seed oils and underutilized plants from Botswana
