"Welcome to the Department of Biological Sciences of the Faculty of Sciences at the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN). It is an honour and a privilege to have you visit our website page. The Department strives to provide quality teaching and research in Biology as it applies to Agriculture and Natural Resources. Courses offered include biological disciplines such as Microbiology, Biochemistry, Botany, Ecology, Biodiversity, Zoology, Bioethics, Biology, Genetics, and Systematics. These courses are fundamental courses for most of the programmes offered in the BUAN. The Department has two accredited Botswana Qualification Authority (BQA) programmes, namely, BSc in Biodiversity and Conservation and BSc in Biodiversity and Ecology. The former started in August 2023, while the latter will begin in August 2024. The Department is in the process of developing new graduate programmes. The Department's research focus areas include Biodiversity and conservation, Biosystematics, Climate change and environmental sustainability, Vegetation survey, Wildlife ecology, Restoration of degraded landscapes, Population, Community and Ecosystem Ecology.
