Higher Diploma in Animal Health and Production:
The Diploma programme in Animal Health and Production was first offered by Botswana Agricultural College (BCA) in recognition of the need for animal health technicians in the livestock industry. The programme was reviewed in 1988. Subsequently the programme was reviewed and aligned with University of Botswana’s semesterized system and upgraded to a Higher Diploma in Animal Health and Production (HDAH&P) offered by BCA.Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA), through National Credit Qualification Framework (NCQF) caters for diploma qualifications at level 6 and does not cater for higher diploma qualifications. Hence, the phasing out of HDAH&P to be replaced by Diploma in Animal Health and Production (DAHP) to be offered by Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN).

Entry Requirements
Minimum BB in Double Science Award or C in any 2 pure Sciences, C in Mathematics, E in English and C in optional subject at BGSCE level.
Outcomes of the programs
Graduates of this qualification are recognised under Veterinary Surgeons Act, 2008 and by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), as veterinary para-professionals. According to the Act, Botswana Veterinary Surgeon’s Council has designated the graduates, animal health technicians.
Graduates of this programme have proven to have technical knowledge and skills in Animal
Health and Production and meet the manpower need at the technical level, in disease control, livestock management and production, animal welfare, food safety and public health. In addition, the graduates have the foundation to articulate with degree qualifications including Bachelor of Veterinary Science.
